Track time

Start a timer or log a missed hour, on a day, week or calendar, against a project and an optional task.

TurtleTime records hours for the active workspace. Open it from ShellStack → Apps. The sidebar is Today, Tracker, Projects, Forecast, Finance, Timesheets, Bridge and Settings.

Before the first timer

  • Switch to the workspace the work belongs to. The switcher is at the top of the sidebar.
  • Set the workspace currency in Settings → Workspace. Invoices and new amounts use it. Changing it later does not convert money already recorded.
  • Create the client and project first if they are not in the directory yet. See Projects, rates and forecast.

Start and stop a timer

  1. Open Tracker and press Track time Pick the day first if you are not logging now.
  2. Choose the project Add a category and notes if you use them. Set billable. The last project you used in this workspace is preselected.
  3. Start timer Only one timer runs at a time. Starting another stops the previous one and saves it.
  4. Stop Stop saves the entry. The clock is the suite clock, so closing the tab does not lose the running timer.

Log a missed hour

Add a manual entry with start and end, then press Log time. Use Resume on a past entry to start that project again. Edit the description, move the entry between projects or categories, or change billable, from the entry itself.

Day, week and calendar

  • Day keeps a day strip and the entries for that date.
  • Week shows the live week total, with search and filters. It does not repeat a second set of weekday buttons.
  • Calendar uses Month, Week, Day and Agenda, the same shapes as Tides. Group by client, project or category. Filter by client, project or search.
  • Click an empty cell to log time without leaving the calendar. A week time slot prefills start and end. A project or category row prefills those fields.
  • Drag a finished entry to another day in Month, or another time in an ungrouped Week. A running timer has to be stopped before it can move. A failed save puts the entry back.

Put the hour on a Tides task

In the track dialog, open tasks from the board and pick an open task assigned to you. Or type a note and create it as a task. Starting a linked timer can move that task to the status chosen in Settings → Integrations. Stopping records the time back onto the task. Time written from the Tides side is marked as coming from Tides. TurtleTime’s own list shows TurtleTime entries.
