Work on a task

Assign, comment, attach, relate, link a page, and log time without leaving the card.

A task is a card. Open it from any view. The identifier looks like AB-12: a short code from the project, then a number inside that project.

Create a task

  1. Press + in a column, or add from All Tasks If a default template exists, the form opens with that template already applied.
  2. Fill the card Status, title, description, assignees, dates, priority (low, medium, high, urgent), estimate and tags. Assignees are workspace members with Tides access, or a Shelly crew.
  3. Save The card lands in the column you chose. Drag it later, or change Status in the list.

On the card

  • Description is a document. Type / for blocks. @mention a teammate to notify them.
  • Comments work the same way. You can edit or delete your own comments.
  • Subtasks are child tasks with their own status. Completing the parent does not complete them.
  • Attachments accept files up to 10 MB. Only the person who uploaded a file can delete it.
  • Relations are blocks, blocked by, related to, or duplicates. The product checks for circular blocks and refuses a task related to itself. In this version, saving a relation requires an admin.
  • Linked pages attach a Kraken document so the spec sits on the card. The page also shows Open in Tides.
  • Activity lists status changes, assignment, edits and comments.
  • Move task sends the card to another project. It gets a new number there. A task that still has subtasks cannot be moved.

Time

The time panel on the task lists entries and any running timer. Log time to write an entry without leaving Tides. Track with TurtleTime opens the timer in TurtleTime against this task. Hours logged here are marked as Tides time and are not pulled into a TurtleTime invoice.

Templates

Templates prefill a title, description, status, priority, estimate, assignees and tags. Open Templates in the sidebar. Any member can create one. Mark one as the default and new tasks start from it.

Hand a card to Shelly

Add a status called Agent Inbox if you want a crew to pick work up from the board. Cards in that column are the crew’s queue. Tides remains the task list. Shelly does not keep a second copy of the board. Approving what the crew wants to change is done in Shelly, not by dragging the card.
