Zapier is a second product. We wanted the connection inside the workspace.
ClickUp has an app directory. Notion has connections. Jira has a marketplace. A studio does not need another automation product. It needs one connection the calendar, the research run and the teammate can all use.
The usual answer to “we also use Gmail and GitHub” is a Zap. Then a second Zap, because the first one only updated the board. Then someone asks where the key lives, and the honest answer is a browser tab you hope nobody closes. I wanted the connection to be a fact about the workspace, not a scenario I have to keep alive.
Integrations in ShellStack are not a Zapier clone with our logo on it. You connect an app from settings — calendar, mail, code, chat, or whatever else the catalogue offers — and that connection belongs to a person, inside the organisation, limited to the workspaces you choose. Disconnecting removes it. There is no scenario left running in a third tab.
One connection, three jobs
- My Calendar reads the calendars you connected. Inactive connections, other people, and other workspaces stay out.
- Kraken research can use the same connection as a read-only source. Hits stay bounded and come back as citations, not a paste of your inbox.
- Shelly can search what the connection offers, inspect one tool, and call it. Anything that writes outside the workspace waits for a person.
- Organisation policy can forbid a whole category. A workspace that should not see mail does not see mail.
What this is not
It is not a place to rebuild your company in someone else’s objects. A connection does not turn HubSpot into a client directory, and it does not turn Slack into the board. If the job is pairing records you already store — a Linear issue with a Tides task, a Harvest client with yours — that is the bridge, and it is a different decision.
If the key has to live in a browser, it is not an integration. It is a favour.
Connect an app when three products need it. Buy an automation tool when the job is “when this, do that” and nothing else has to know.
